The Olympio cafe bar situated overlooking the small harbour of Makrigialos has one of the prettiest and most unusual bougainvillea's to be seen in this area of Crete.Although it is only one plant some of the flowers are a deep pink and some are white,it's amazing to see both colours on the same branch.

The bougainvillea surrounds the front of the cafe where the atmosphere is one of happy contentment.The customers-some regular holiday makers and residents of Makrigialos.sit in the shade and enjoy the view of the beach,blue sea and harbour.Of course they also enjoy the Olympio's excellent food complete with Dimitris & Hara's own friendly brand of service.

A good selection of snacks and drinks are available as well as ice creams,the tuna salad is the best to be found in Makrigialos.

We are οn the beach front by the small fishing harbour in the village of Makrigialos. Makrigialos, (Makrygialo, Makry Gialos, Μακρύ Γιαλός) is in the southeast part of the Island of Crete, 25 Km East of Ierapetra, and 35 Km South of Sitia town, in the Lassithi area.

Before Olympio became a cafe, it used to be a Kafeneio, a storehouse and after that in 1970's the home of our parents, until 1990. It is made of stone, built in 1936.
We renovated it and converted it to a cafe bar in 1996 with a nice terrace under the old tamarisk trees with a view of the bay and the Libyan Sea.

Dimitris and Hara Kakouri offer you everything you may need during the hot days & nights of the summer.

We open from early morning until late at night every day, from April to October.

We serve Breakfast all day, Greek Snacks, Yogurt honey, Toasted Sandwiches, Omelettes, Fresh Salads, and Pizza for lunch or dinner. Coffees, Fresh fruit juices and salads, Deserts, Ice Creams, Cold Beers (Mythos Draught), Wines & All sort of Spirits, Milk shakes, Long drinks & Cocktails.

ATENTION 1. You also can find in maps etc. different spellings of our town like;

Makrigialos, Markygialos, Macrialos, Makri Gialos, Makrys Gialos, Makriyialos, Makriyalos, Makri Yalos etc.

But the correct way is into two words, (Μακρύ-Γιαλός in Greek) "Makry-Gialos".

Because also with the same name called as well many more places in mainland Greece and other Greek Islands.They are few Internet booking sites with this mistake as well.
