WELCOME TO MAKRY-GIALOS VILLAGE

MAKRY-GIALOS Village stand in SEast part of CRETE Island.

Few years ago Makry-Gialos was a little port with a few storehouses.

Around this time there were only a few (2-3) families living in the area and a few men spending the night while they were fishing.
In that storehouses, the local people (who in that time use to live in the surrounding villages in and around the mountains) used to store up and after, export their goods, like Olive oil, wine, Tsikoudia or Raki, sultanas, carobs beans, corn, and live animals.

There weren't many roads for transfers, because the land is very rocky.

Finaly until and after the last war and between the 50s – 70s that the gvernmentstarted building roads.
Also during these years most of the local population moved to the big cities in Crete, Athens, and other Greek cities. A big part of them also went to Germany and to Australia for work.

Today the resort of Makry-Gialos has a population of around 1000 people who they mainly move dawn from the mountain villages of Agios Stefanos ( Saint Stefano ) and Pefki ( Pine trees ).
Makry Gialos consists of two settlements: Makry-Gialos were is now by the fishing harbor and Analipsi, were are build the two big hotels Sunwing and Mikri Poli.

Ένα χωριό, δυο δήμοι!

Σκηνές βγαλμένες από το θέατρο του παραλόγου εκτυλίσσονται σε καθημερινή βάση στον Μακρύ Γιαλό, το παραλιακό χωριό που βρίσκεται στα νότια του Λασιθίου και εδώ και μήνες παραμένει σε καθεστώς … διχοτόμησης.

Ο πρώην δήμος έχει κοπεί στη μέση, καθώς απορροφήθηκε το ένα του κομμάτι από την Ιεράπετρα και το άλλο από τη Σητεία.

Το σκηνικό συνθέτουν “πεζοδρόμια – σύνορα”, εκδηλώσεις – παρωδία και μία κοινωνία που δεν γνωρίζει που να απευθυνθεί.

Τον “Μακρύ Γιαλό Ιεράπετρας” και τον “Μακρύ Γιαλό Σητείας” χωρίζουν σύνορα που διακρίνονται από το χρώμα των πεζοδρομίων. Αν το πεζοδρόμιο είναι άσπρο βρίσκονται στο Δήμο Ιεράπετρας. Αν είναι γκρι βρίσκονται στο Δήμο Σητείας.

Για τους επισκέπτες, ο χάρτης είναι απαραίτητος για να ξεχωρίσουν το ίδιο χωριό, που έχει χωριστεί όμως σε δύο μέρη και ανήκει σε ξεχωριστούς δήμους με διαφορετική ονομασία.

Άλλη μία χρονιά με πτώση της τουριστικής κίνησης στο Μ-Γιαλό.

Μακρύς Γιαλός, Τέλος

Makry-Gialos Crete

Ο Μακρύς Γιαλός δεν υπάρχει πιά. (τον πάτησε το τραίνο) ούτε για την Γεράπετρο ούτε για την Στεία.
Έγινε Μικρός Γιαλός στην ουσία.
Στην πραγματικότητα πολύ μικρός.
Οχι μόνο γιατί, οι Κομματοπατέρες τον έκοψαν μεζεδάκι, για την όρεξη. (Στειακό και Γεραπετρίτικο)
Επίσης οι νέοι Σωτήρες γιά άλλη μιά φορά βοήθησαν (στον Απρίλη μέσα) με τις μπουλτόζες και τα φορτηγά, την απομάκρυση του υποστρώματος, (των βοτσάλων) της ωραιότερης παραλίας της ΝΑνατολικής Κρήτης, και δεν ηταν η πρώτη φορά που έγινε αυτό.

ATENTION 1. You also can find in maps etc. different spellings of our town like;

Makrigialos, Markygialos, Macrialos, Makri Gialos, Makrys Gialos, Makriyialos, Makriyalos, Makri Yalos etc.

But the correct way is into two words, (Μακρύ-Γιαλός in Greek) "Makry-Gialos".

Make sure that is in Makry-Gialos, Crete.
Because also with the same name called as well many more places in mainland Greece and other Greek Islands.They are few Internet booking sites with this mistake as well.
